Palm Springs
America’s most glamorous oasis, Palm Springs tries to find a balance between the artistic treasure of past and glamorized present to offer you a perfect weekend. This place was a darling for early pioneers who gathered here around 1800. Later, famous personalities like Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra frequented the place. Where sunshine is eternal (more than 350 days as per met department) and fairways are endless, where natural beauty is intense and pools are pristine, Palm Springs remains as alluring as ever.
21st century’s incarnated Palm Springs is a pleasant mash up of new innovative stores and midcentury modern emporiums, classical styled restaurants and modern busy bees.
Often termed as “playground of the stars,” this oasis unveils lush farmland stuffed with golf courses. Palm Springs Tramway which is situated a little over 2,600 feet sea level. Here you get to see the amazing view of Coachella Valley. There are Indian Casinos set against the gorgeous desert backdrop; some of them are going upscale. Get your gambling fix in one of those dens. If you are a rock art aficionado, Indian Cabyons is a must visit. Many centuries ago, it is believed that ancestors of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians came here and settled. They have developed communities around these areas. Remnants of these civilizations still can be found including rock art and other things.
Hollywood Sign
The Hollywood Sign on the Hills are the most photographed and memorable sign in the world. Situated only a few hundred feet above the streets, 50 foot high Hollywood Signboard was built in 1924 to promote a real estate development called Hollywood Land in the foothills and canyons of Mt. Lee. This place is called Beachwood Canyon. If you are inquisitive to smell the history, you are invited to cruise through a 1.5-mile trail. It will lead you through grassy fields to a clutch of man-made caves carved out by an early-20th century quarry. Many films have been shot here, like, Star Trek, Bonanza and Batman. You will also able to see the exquisite Hollywood sign.
The real estate company which erected the Hollywood signboard lit it with 4,000 light bulbs. There was a caretaker for the signboard who lived in a cottage by the board. In 1949, the City of Los Angeles decided to destroy the dilapidated board but decided against it when locals went vocal. By 1970 the signboard has achieved a cult status. During that time Hollywood celebrities came forward to restored the signboard.
