In his latest album “Last Train to Paris” Diddy reunites with his former aid and R&B/Pop star, Usher and ushers us to the superbly directed video by Collin Tilley which has been shot extensively on Los Angeles Film Locations. They joined up again after a long hiatus of eight years when together they created the track, “I need a girl.” Love has been the central dominant theme in the entire album and the track “Looking for Love” holds the transition awesomely. No it was not shot in Paris, director was shooting the track in very much in Los Angeles filming locations. This fifth album from the rapper is an attempt in stylizing an alter ego and thus crafting a conceptual album.
The experimentation yields positive response from audience and hold its peak positions in French Album Chart, Swiss Album Chart, UK R&B Album Chart, US Billboard for many weeks. In its opening week, the album debuted on the US Billboard 200 album chart at seventh spot while surpassing the initial forecast (as per Billboard) 101,000 copies were sold.
The album may not be the biggest commercial success for Diddy, but many sensible fanboys believe probably it is the best work Diddy has ever produced. The new group that he created along with the Dirty Money duo Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper proved to be the craftiest move he has embraced ever.
“Looking for Love” is the fifth song of the album and probably one of the brightest. Not just song wise but in terms of sound, strobe lights, visual, treatment, it’s an grand experience. The video which got its visuals mostly from filming locations in Los Angeles is thriving with noir elements, and obviously elements like sirens, smoke, skyline shots, minimal or subtle lighting and half a dozen femme fatales make things real hot. The song has charted at #41 on the US Billboard R&B Chart. A nice track, the production of this number goes real hard, the beat is real thumping, the pace just merges perfectly and above all Usher ties all things together with his at-ease delivery. Diddy, as usual, does not delve much other than talking over the beat and tries to keep up a steady flow over the rhythm. Don’t expect much from Dawn and Kaleena as they were literally absent from the entire do. Their fans will surely miss them. Kat Graham also out of a sudden appears on the screen, and I am sure Diddy certainly would be very pleased with this.
But then, Diddy does not need to be omnipresent. Just before the release of the album in one of the interviews Diddy said that just for the sake of shock value he was not trying to unveil his vulnerable side. His goal was to tell the truth, off course, in his own style. NME while reviewing the album wrote, Diddy proves a generous curator, laying on blockbuster exhibits and atmospheric slow jamz alike in the greatest cast-of-millions hip-hop joint since, well, Kanye’s latest.’
